The following images are pieces of work done by Tamara de Lempicka, who is a critical figure in the history of Art Deco. Through her innovative styling she utilized the stroke of geometric patterns and cured features in her work. Particulatly in the self protraits we see a distinct use of geometric forms used to accent the shapes of her features. It is also interesting to note that in the works “Fishes” and “Autumn” we see the puzzle like design of the geometric shapes. It is nearing that of an abstract form using the elements of art deco to create a blissful sense of presences inside the compstion. The Fishes look to be in motion, caught in the waves and movement of the water surrounded by leafs and other vibrant earth toned elements. In “Autumn” there is only a few clear forms to be seen, the leafs, the cloudy sky and the grapes. The rest of the composition also seems to be in motion, mirroring that of leaves blowing n an Autumn breeze. Its interesting that she choose to still a few leaves in the piece and the gapes. Potentially insinuation the pause of time a person will experience when picnicking in the season of Autumn. They sit with refreshments out in the changing season and as they feel the wind swirling around them she catch the sight of a few leafs while enjoying the grapes. The palette for this piece is purple and brown colors, suggesting the end of Autumn when most of the color has leached from nature in favor of the colder winter coming down on the environment.
